The closest course to bustling Bangkok is anything but a big-city experience. Lakes and creeks are so abundant you’ll believe you stepped into the countryside. Indeed, water comes into play on every hole. And what a collection of holes it is.
Completely redesigned in 2004 by the American duo of Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley (creators of Bali Hai in Las Vegas and Canyon River in Montana), this track is enticing but also deceiving. The greens are big, but fast so be sure to bring your best short game with you!
The sand traps cast beautiful shadows and guard the large greens in menacing ways. What may be an ideal angle to the flag one day can be the opposite the next. The huge dance floors allow for a multitude of pin positions, which greatly change the complexion of approach shots.
The owner, Vichai Samokoses, spared nothing in remaking Muang Kaew (pronounced ‘mung cow’). It shows not just in the course, but in the clubhouse and kitchen, which dishes up some of the best, post-golf grub in the Kingdom.
Features
- GETTING THERE: Twenty minutes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport and 20 minutes from downtown, making it the most conveniently located course in Bangkok.
- MASTERS MIRROR: With a creek that runs in front of the green and bunkers behind, the par-3 third looks eerily like the par-3 12th at Augusta National.
- SISTER TRACK: Northern Thailand’s Chiang Mai Highlands Resort & Spa – another Golf In A Kingdom member – is also owned by the Samokoses family.
