Black Mountain Golf Club Hua Hin | Thailand

This true championship layout - indeed, it was site of the 2009 Black Mountain Masters, an Asian Tour event won by Swedish star Johan Edfors - is among the best and most challenging golf courses in all of Thailand. Thanks to the many natural creeks that run through it, and the mountainous backdrops throughout, it's also one of the most beautiful.

Black Mountain Golf ClubWater comes into play almost from the beginning, at the testy par-5 second - a downhiller from the tee but an uphiller from the fairway. Players must avoid the pond on the right off the tee - and then the creek that crosses the fairway about 40 yards short of the green! - in order to get off to a good start.

The last par 5 makes for a dramatic closing hole. It plays severely uphill to a green that is protected by several deep-faced bunkers, just below clubhouse restaurant's expansive dining terrace - the perfect perch from which to watch golfers close out their rounds.

Features

  • GETTING THERE: About 20 minutes by car due west from downtown Hua Hin.

  • STAR SPOKESMEN: Black Mountain is home to Edfors - the European Tour standout purchased a villa there after his win in '09 - and one of the main sponsors of Thai star Thongchai Jaidee, the most accomplished Asian Tour player of all time. Other start players representing Black Mountain on tour: Simon Khan, Mikko Ilonen, Simon Yates and Chris Rodgers.

  • THE REAL DEAL(S): Even the restaurant is all about the best - it imports its salmon from Norway and steak from Australia and New Zealand.
