Santiburi Chiang Rai Country Club | Thailand
In the early 1990s, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. visited Thailand and traveled to a mountainous area about as far north, and as far west, as one can go. He was commissioned to build a golf course there, and the end product - Santiburi Chiang Rai Country Club - was nothing short of spectacular. The man who designed Chambers Bay - the 'No. 1 Best New Public Course in America (2008)', according to Golf Digest - did just as good of a job in Thailand's exotic Golden Triangle, where 18 breathtaking, impeccably maintained holes either skirt a chain of lakes or flow over the low hills of Bang Bor.
"The holes build in intensity and offer varying options to challenge all skill levels and ages," said RTJ II. "It is a very playable and memorable golf course." To optimize the experience, tee off around sunrise and watch the fog lift off this masterpiece.
